The perennial philosophy is spirituality, is the experience of the whole, is an internal, direct and total experience of peace, love and universal brotherhood, that allows the natural display of human values. In the book ‘Learn to be’ Ramon Gallegos expressed that the process of evolution of consciousness can be understood as a process of recognition of our true nature. We have a body, but we are not the body, have a mind but are not the psychic apparatus, are not a mere cultural product of society, or we are made only of language, our true nature transcends all that. Ramon Gallegos continues by stating that the Declaration ‘That thou art’ points out the need to realize the identity of the individual spirit with the universal spirit, our nature is not unrelated to the nature of the divine basis, but that is identical to it. Shankara points out that this divine basis is a subtle essence that is beyond time and space, more beyond birth and death, beyond sensory experience and ‘That thou art’. ‘You’ means our ‘self’ true, our essence, our identity, ‘That’ means the universal spirit, the divine eternal basis, therefore, we are in essence that universal spirit. On the other hand, Ramon Gallegos added that the perennial philosophy leads us to transform the conception that we have of ourselves to point out that our true nature is essentially spiritual, therefore we need to recognize that we are not human beings who have spiritual experiences, but we are spiritual beings that are having a human experience.

Speaking on the same subject, continues: the perennial philosophy also tells us that our essential spiritual nature is ‘truth-consciousness-Bliss’, these are three essences inherent in the real be, always go together, one cannot exist without the other two. The experience of the truth, awakens consciousness to the recognition of the Supreme. The nature of our being inside is the truth, the Supreme reality that has always been and will be, because it is beyond time, this truth is a fact without time that belongs to eternity, a truth without history that has always been, we are that fundamental truth and we are made of divine truth.
